Walk-in Storybooks
Walk-in Storybooks™ are gigantic backdrops designed by artist Roxie Munro that set the stage for learning academic subjects through reading and performing original plays and skits in the classroom. Each backdrop has two intricate scenes which were carefully researched and hand illustrated by Roxie, famous for her “Inside ~ Outside” picture books.
In addition to the backdrop, each Walk-in Storybook includes a web-based app, and optional Playful Scripts that are all designed around a specific theme. Frames sold separately.

The above video refers to K.I.W.i. Storybooks, which was the original product name. Now all product lines include the company name, Calapitter Creations. NOTE: The barcode markers seen in the video are no longer applicable for the web-based apps.
Creating the Backdrop Art
Roxie's first step in creating the art for Calapitter STORYBOOKS was to carefully consider which themes to illustrate from a world of possibilities. Once the 9 themes were determined, she diligently researched each topic so that the scenes were accurate and realistic yet would spark a child’s imagination. The art had to appeal to children.
In fact, during Roxie's school visits, children have asked, "How do you make them [the illustrations] so beautiful?" Roxie says that is the point. "Children understand, appreciate, and deserve decent art. We should not "talk down" to them. We should not give them generic, simple, or computerized "visuals," usually full of bright colors, just because they are children. Young people recognize and deserve to be exposed to quality, carefully-executed art."

Our Inspiration
It all began with a child's wish to have kid-sized books where they could become the character. This wish is now a reality! Calapitter Walk-in Storybooks™ will inspire imaginative role-play and storytelling for hours of creative fun. "I'm bored" is sure to become a phrase of the past.
Children's cognitive, social, and literacy skills improve dramatically with pretend play. A wide variety of themes are offered whereby kids can improvise, problem-solve, act out their own story, and become a character in one of our two-act plays (available with optional Playful Scripts curriculum).
We provide the settings and kids provide the stories. What child doesn't like to dress-up, be a hero, or tell a funny tale? Our storybooks offer life-size fun. . . it's where original stories happen.
